KW - N2 - Este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver uma “leitura” espacial da cidade de Natal, capital do estado do Rio Grande do Norte, e sua reconfiguração a partir da intensificação da atividade turística, tran-sitando, principalmente, pela geografia, pelas ciências sociais e pela economia, em uma abordagem matricial que desconhece as limita-ções tradicionais da ciência e reconhece a complexidade que envol-ve o mundo atual. Em face desse entendimento, foram analisadas as imbricações sócioeconômicas que remodelam a paisagem natalense sob a égide da nova economia do setor de serviços, capitaneada pelo turismo, em um intenso processo de reconfiguração da cidade, concentrando-se em três grandes espaços e suas artérias irrigantes. Essas mudanças deveram-se à relação público-privado – via políticas públicas – na formação dos novos espaços e na remode-lação de áreas antigas da cidade, que, no conjunto, contri-buíram para que a atividade turística dela se apropriasse, tornando-a um mosaico sócio-econômico que possui reflexos evidentes em sua cartografia urbana. Palavras-chave: Turismo, Espaço urbano e Natal ABSTRACT This study aimed at developing a Natal-city spatial “reading”, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, and its reconfiguration from the intensification of tourist activity, going through by geography, social sciences and economy, in a matrix approach that ignores the traditional limitations of science and recognizes the complexity around the world today. In light of this understanding, they have been analyzed the socio-economic connections that reform the landscape of Natal under the aegis of the new service-sector economy, led by tourism, in an intense process of city recon-figuration, focusing on three major areas and their irrigating arteries. These changes occur due to the public-private relationship via public policies in the formation of new areas and the reform of  old zones of the city, which contributed so that the tourist activity seize it, making it a socio-economic pattern that has obvious effects in its urban mapping.
