A QUESTÃO DA CIDADE E DO CAMPO: teorias e política (the city and rural question: theory and politics)
Abstract
O 5o Congresso Nacional da Associação dos Geógrafos Brasileiros - AGB, realizado em Goiânia em julho de 2004, representou um momento de balanço da Geografia e da prática dos geógrafos, em função dos 70 anos da criação da AGB. Não por acaso, o congresso propunha a articulação de duas dimensões importantes e indissociáveis: a prática - as transformações do espaço - e a teórica - a capacidade da Geografia de construir um Entendimento da realidade. Nesta direção, consideramos que se abre como um novo horizonte o repensar do papel da Geografia e dos geógrafos na sociedade brasileira neste novo século. É assim que à transformação do espaço se alia a necessidade da compreensão desse movimento/momento da realidade, pela Geografia. Do ponto de vista do tema da relação cidade-campo, podemos afirmar que no mundo Moderno, as profundas transformações no processo de reprodução espacial sinalizam a superação da contradição cidade/campo. Tal fato coloca-se como elemento essencial para decifrar esse mundo moderno, requerendo um esforço na direção da compreensão do processo em outro patamar.

The 5th Congress of the Brazilian Association of Geographers-AGB (Goiânia-Go, Brazil), July, 2004, celebrated the 70th year of AGB foundation, having asmain subject the budget of the action of Brazilian geographers since then. It is not by coincidence that the congress proposed the articulation between two importants dimensions of the Science, wich are: the practical - the space changes - and the theorical - the ability of Geography in producing an understanding of society. In this direction, we consider that the re-think of Geography and of geographers role in the Brazilian society is a new opened horizon. By this way, we arrive to consider that spacial changes are connected to the need of construction, by geographers, of an understanding about the movement/moment of reality. In terms of city-rural relationships, we consider that in the modern world, deep changes in the spacial reproduction process sign to the superation of city/rural spaces contradictions. Now, this fact is placed as un important element to the comprehension of the modern world, demanding then un effort of analysis at another level.
