IMAGENS NOS LIVROS DIDÁTICOS DE GEOGRAFIA: SEUS ENSINAMENTOS, SUA PEDAGOGIA... (pictures in geography textbooks: their lessons, their pedagogy…)
Abstract

ABSTRACT
This study makes a reading on the meaning of being ‘developed’ and ‘underdeveloped’ country, in images in primary school Geography textbooks. It is inscribed in the discussion field which look at relationships between power and meaning production, anchored in theoretical tools from Cultural Geography. Investigation shows that these identity inventions produce meanings through various references. The problematization and developed discussion made it possible to show that there is regularity in the way identities are produced. They also show that identities are positioned with fixed, crystallized and universal meanings, a homogenisation of meanings being predominant. Differences among identities are produced in various dimensions and constantly changed, but they are always following politics interested in positioning them as different. Identities are defined and classified according to differences, authorising and legitimating a binary territorial hierarchy among them.
Key words: Geography books, imagery, identity.
