A CIRCULAÇÃO NA MANAUS DA BELLE ÉPOQUE: modernização e exclusão (belle époque circulation at Manaus: modernization and exclusion)
Abstract
Este artigo busca, a partir de fontes primárias, jornais diários e documentos oficiais, tais como: decretos, mensagens e leis, analisar a implantação dos bondes elétricos na cidade de Manaus em 1896 e a expansão ocorrida até 1910. Se de um lado, a implantação de sofisticado serviço de transporte, que coincide com o período áureo da borracha, significava o sinal da modernização numa cidade tropical, de outro assinalava a exclusão de parte significativa da população desse serviço.

ABSTRACT
The article seeks from primary sources, daily papers and oficial documents, such as: decree, messages and rules to analyze the beginning of transportation by trolley in Manaus in 1896, as well as its expansion until 1910. The beginning of sophisticated transportation that took place at rubber boom period, whether means modernization in a tropical town, on the other hand, it emphasizes the exclusion of a significant part of the population.
