CLASSIFICATION OF AEOLIAN FEATURES OF MARANHÃO STATE SANDSHEETS, BRAZIL
Abstract
This research show a preliminary proposition of coastal aeolian forms of the east side of coastal plain of Maranhão state. These coastal aeolian deposits are the biggest of the South America knowed as Lençóis Maranhenses. Field dates analysis, aerophotograph and landsat images interpretations defined five groups of aeolian forms: free dunes; vegetated dunes; fixed dunes; dunes esteiras and blow out forms. Genetics considerations to each group are discussed, showing the importance of the climate, vegetation and coastal plain relief in these coastal aeolian deposits development.
