CIDADES E GLOBALIZAÇÃO
Abstract
A progressiva globalização das trocas e as modificações nas estruturas de produção deram, nos últimos vinte anos, uma grande importância às funções de decisão e ao novo terciário de acompanhamento que se localizam nas maiores cidades e sobretudo nos países desenvolvidos. Essas novas metrópoles da globalização se organizam cada vez mais frequéntemente em espaços mais amplos que a cidade propriamente dita e constituem regiões metropolitanas. Para alguns trata-se de progresso e marcha para as “metápoles” do futuro. Para outros consiste em agravação, fortemente evidenciada nos países do Sul, da segregação socioespacial que opõe a cidade legal à cidade das urbanizações irregulares.

ABSTRACT
The progressive internationalization of exchanges and changes in structures of production gave, since about twenty years, a bigger importance to functions of decisions and to the new tertiary of accompaniment localized in the biggest cities, especially in the developed countries. These new metropolis of internationalization are often organized in larger spaces besides the city itself and constitute some metropolitan regions. For some it means progress and a march toward tomorrow’s «métapolis». For others it is an aggravation, very obvious in countries of the South, of the socio-spatial segregation that opposes the legal city to the irregular urbanization city.
