RECURSOS HÍDRICOS E URBANIZAÇÃO: A PROBLEMÁTICA DA RMC/CURITIBA-PR
Abstract

ABSTRACT
From 1990 on, the state of Paraná has intensified the industrialization process in the Metropolitan Region of
Curitiba, under the assumption that economic growth and
creation of direct and indirect jobs would be the result.
Therefore, large industries have been attracted to the region; some of them have established themselves in water
spring areas, used for the public supply of water to Curitiba
and surrounding areas. Due to that industrialization process, a great number of people have come to the region,
seeking housing and employment, and that has caused an
inappropriate urban occupation process in spring water areas making worst the situation already configured by the
urbanization and metropolization process occurred in the
region on past decades. Because of that the availability of
water resources for public supply, in terms of quality and
amount, has become a restrictive factor to the development
of the region.
Key words: Metropolization, hydric ressources, water
quality.
