VERTICALIDADES E HORIZONTALIDADES NA FUNÇÃO COMERCIAL DA CIDADE DE SANTA MARIA - RS (verticalities and horizontalities in the commercial function in the city of Santa Maria-RS)
Abstract

ABSTRACT
In this article, we seek to understand the corporative use of the territory of Santa Maria-RS, based on the analysis of the integration of its commercial function to the contemporary process of economic globalization. As instrumental resources of analysis, we utilize the concepts of used territory, verticalities and horizontalities proposed by Milton Santos, through which we evidenced: on one hand, the command of job offer and finances of local commerce by exogenous corporate networks; and on the other hand, as contraposition, the rearticulation of local commercial companies in defense of their market positions through the creation of cooperation networks. We concluded that the exogenous commercial networks, upon taking over the command of the commercial function in the city of Santa Maria, emphasized its historical dependence to external sources of employment and income.
