HISTÓRIA AMBIENTAL E ECOLOGIA DA PAISAGEM: CAMINHOS INTEGRATIVOS NA GEOGRAFIA FÍSICA (environmental history and landscape ecology: integrative tracks in physical geography)

Abstract

O artigo apresenta uma revisão analítica dos conceitos e limites de abrangência da História Ambiental e da Ecologia da Paisagem. Para tanto, foram discutidas e avaliadas as suas principais influências e contextos. O conceito de paisagem constitui o principal elemento norteador destas duas disciplinas. Objetiva-se com esta abordagem a compreensão da história ambiental e da ecologia da paisagem, além de identificar os conceitos unificadores, em cujo contexto a Geografia Física destaca-se como área do conhecimento habilitada a integrar as disciplinas que buscam analisar as complexas relações entre o homem e seu espaço físico e biológico.

ABSTRACT 

The paper at issue presents an analytical revision of the conceptual framework and the scientific boundaries of Environmental History in comparison to Landscape Ecology. The concept of landscape is the main guiding element of these two disciplines. The main goal of this paper is to comprehend and differentiate environmental History and Landscape Ecology as well as identify the unifying concepts and understand the role of Physical Geography to join the disciplines that in their way try to comprehend the complex interrelation between man and the physical and biological environment.

RÉSUMÉ

Cet article présente un examen analytique des concepts et des limites de la couverture de l’Histoire Environnementale et de l’Écologie du Paysage. Pour ce faire, ont été discutés et ont évalué leurs principales influences et les contextes. La notion de paysage est le principal facteur qui guide ces deux disciplines. L’objectif de cette approche c’est comprendre l’Histoire Environnementale et de l’Écologie du Paysage et d’identifier les concepts unificateurs, et aussi le contexte dans lequel la Géographie Physique est clairement le domaine de la connaissance habilité à intégrer les disciplines qui cherchent à analyser les relations complexes entre le l’homme et son espace physique et biologique.

Possui graduação em Ciências Biológicas pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (1985), mestrado em Ecologia pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1997) e doutorado em Geografia pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (2005). Atualmente é professor assistente da Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro, regime 40 horas, com atuação em ensino e pesquisa em cursos de graduação e pós-graduação. Tem experiência na área de Ecologia, com ênfase em Ecologia Vegetal, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: mata atlântica, ecologia da paisagem, estrutura e funcionalidade de ecossistemas e diagnóstico ambiental. Desenvolve pesquisa na área de Geografia na linha de Pesquisa Transformação da Paisagem.
